Ms Yumi Yamane is the headmaster of Shinsei School. She obtained a BA from Gakushuin University. She has created ikebana works for a number of significant cultural events in Japan, in Washington D.C. and in Beijing.

Ms Yamane’s life work is to create ikebana using historical ceramic-ware from the Jomon period to the Ly dynasty (Korea) period. She is a council member of Japan Ikebana Art Association, and a director of Ikebana Association.   

Her father, Yuzo Yamane (1919 - 2001) was a professor at Tokyo University and distinguished art historian accredited by the Japanese Government as a Person of Cultural Merits.

Ms Yamane’s grandfather, Suido Yamane (1893 - 1966) was the founder of the Shinsei School of Ikebana. As one of the most important leaders of the Freestyle Ikebana Movement, Suido made a significant contribution to modernising ikebana. 

美術史家・山根有三の長女として京都に生まれる。 祖父は真生流初代家元・山根翠堂。学習院大学文学部卒。 縄文土器から李朝の白磁大壺まで、古陶磁器にいける花をライフワークとしている。 公益財団法人 日本いけばな芸術協会 評議員。いけばな協会 理事。 

著書「花がたり-山根由美のいけばな世界」（婦人画報社），「飾る花 贈る花」（小学館スクウェア），「自由花をいける」（しんせい出版） 

1994年9月　ワシントンD.C.の女流芸術美術館に作品を展示 

1997年11月　歌手ホセ・カレーラスを迎えた「MIHO MUSEUM」完成披露コンサートでの舞台花を担当する 

2003年3月　「山根由美-古陶磁器にいける」個展を開催する 

2004年6月　中国・北京にて「日本の伝統芸能・その融合と創造」と題された公演に出演。野村万作らとともに日本の伝統芸能の継承者として舞台に立つ 

2005年6月　万国博覧会「愛・地球博」において、「迎賓館」のいけばなを担当する 

2005年以降　東京国立博物館の企画「博物館に初もうで」において、隔年ごとに正月花を担当する 

2011年4月　名古屋マツザカヤホールにて隔年ごとに「真生流いけばな展」を主催
